Wuthering heights

I went to watch ‘Wuthering heights’ at the picturehouse.

Directed by Andrea Arnold and starring Kaya Scodelario as Catherine and James Howson as Heathcliff, this radical adaptation of the book by Emily Brontë stays utterly faithful to the novel and captures the true emotion of the unique and tragic romance.

I thought that the acting was sublime (especially by Kaya Scodelario, who isn’t usually very good) and the setting was stunning and rather perfect for the story but the direction was kind of strange. For one, there was no music used in the entire movie except for right at the end where an odd song choice left the ending slightly flat and fake not fitting in with the simplicity and purity of the rest of the movie.

I thought that Robbie Ryan shot the film brilliantly, using the harsh climate to develope a scene far beyond the ability of just the actors.

Overall i thought the film was beautiful and mindblowing besides a few strange decisions on the part of the director, i really recommend this film to anyone who hasnt read the book as it is a stunning adaptation.
